Good Morning

Can this spring get any more crazy? Marathon bombs, fertilizer plants exploding, scandals rocking the White House, deadly tornadoes in Texas and now horrible tornadoes in Oklahoma over the past two days. We all need to spend some quality time in prayer for our nation. All of our prayers are with those in Oklahoma impacted by the storms.

On a political note, I wonder how badly Obama is wanting to head to Oklahoma to try to get a big bear hug from the governor of Oklahoma. Worked like a charm last time he was in a bind.

Remember Oklahoma and all the other tragic events that have affected our nation over the past weeks.

My heart is broken as well.

There is a saying “Sooner born, Sooner bred and when I die, I’ll be Sooner dead” that permeates so many Oklahomans. No matter where we have moved, you can not take the Okie out of Mr. Firelight and I. Our kids have never lived there but they are die hard OU Sooner fans. They have a solid grasp of the red river rivalry with the Texas Longhorns. They understand the Bedlam rivalry with OSU and if you ask them about the color orange (the color of both Texas and OSU), they will tell you that nothing good comes in orange. My daughter always throws in an “except for pumpkins!”. Our kids understand that Mommy and Daddy were season ticket holders for OU Football for decades (literally from not long after high school graduation until a few years ago). We bleed crimson and creme as we say around here. Oklahoma is just a good place with good people.

My dad, step-mom, brother, sister-in-law, nieces & nephew and extended family still live in Oklahoma City/Edmond area. Mr. Firelight’s family is all still in the south Oklahoma City area. My mom and step-dad do not still live there but they lived in Moore during the May 3rd tornado in 1999. Their house was flattened and rebuilt and my guess is looking at the map from today’s destruction it is flattened again. Thankfully, they retired several years ago and we moved them to Colorado. I feel blessed that my family was not directly impacted but I have friends who currently live in Moore or work in Moore and they have lost houses, cars etc… but thankfully, no lives (that I know of).

My heart and prayers go out to everyone there. Okies are tough, resilient, determined and very goodhearted people. You can’t ask for better people or community. They are a faithful people. There are churches on every corner who will throw open their doors and serve. They come together in times of crisis like no where else I have ever seen. Growing up there, we all know the drill. The weathermen, newscasters, fire, police, first responders etc… have this down to specifics and will do a fantastic job. The metro area of OKC will rally with all forms of support for the people of Moore. Okies understand the concept of rallying for a cause larger than ourselves. Of course, nothing will replace the loss the families will feel for those who died. I honestly can’t imagine…

I want to thank Gov. Palin for her very welcomed prayers.

Recent revelations notwithstanding, has there ever been a more despised government bottom feeder than the Internal Revenue Service? I think most taxpayers will concede, albeit reluctantly, that taxes are a necessary evil to maintain the country’s infrastructure and security; unfortunately, the more powerful the IRS has become, the more above the law they clearly believe they are. Bulletproof comes to mind. In the last week, much has been written and discussed regarding this crown jewel of the United States government, so I thought I’d travel a different path. Settle in with a Kaopectate smoothie while I drag y’all through the bowels of history to celebrate the festive life and times of the Internal Revenue Service.

Our long national nightmare began in 1862, when Abraham Lincoln and Congress enacted the first income tax to pay for the Civil War, or as Southerners refer to it, the War Between the States — there was nothing civil about it. Well, you might know it would be a bunch of Yankees that created this evil bloodsucking monster. The tax was temporary and allowed to expire in 1872. It reared its ugly head again with the Income Tax of 1894, which was declared unconstitutional the same year by the U.S. Supreme Court. Which begs the question — would John Roberts have voted with the majority on that ruling? I have my doubts. Anyway, the criminal enterprise we all know and love as the IRS doomed citizens to financial indentured servitude in 1913 via the 16th Amendment and the autograph of Yankee Democrat Woodrow Wilson. The rest is history — along with trainloads of Maalox and scores of wealthy tax attorneys, CPAs and gastroenterologists. I’ll just plead the fifth (compliments of that great American Jack Daniel) and let it go at that.

Want to see a real knee slapper? Check out the very first 1040 form.

Here’s a fun fact — because of overwhelming opposition to the income tax, from 1868 until 1913, 90 percent of all revenue came from taxes on liquor, beer, wine and tobacco. Accordingly, the IRS’s first real power grab, earning them much of the public’s blinding hatred — well, minus the little old ladies of the WCTU — occurred with passage of the Volstead Act, which gave the IRS Commissioner primary responsibility for enforcing Prohibition.

The movie The Untouchables told the story of Treasury Department agent Eliot Ness, who was tasked with bringing down Chicago gangster Al Capone and his empire of illegal booze and booze smuggling. While Ness and his gang are usually credited with bagging Capone, it was the IRS who actually got the goods and successfully prosecuted him for tax evasion in 1931. And it would appear that Capone’s ‘Chicago way‘ is still practiced today by Chicago based Yankee Democrat mayors and Presidents. Hey, just watch the movie and marvel at the parallels.

After that victory, the IRS became the government’s badass enforcers. What followed was the biggest blow to the country’s workers — the Revenue Act of 1942, which President Franklin D. Roosevelt hailed as “the greatest tax bill in American history.” See, another Yankee Democrat sticking it to the working stiffs. This legislation forced about 75% of workers to pay income taxes, and was followed by another law mandating that employers withhold taxes from workers’ paychecks and forward the proceeds to the treasury. Legalized theft, anyone?

Drunk with power, and no doubt the contents of more than a few cases of Capone’s confiscated hooch, the IRS morphed into the personal hit squad for several Presidents. To wit:

In the 1930s, President Franklin Roosevelt used the IRS to launch financial investigations against his political enemies, including William Randolph Hearst and LA Governor Huey Long.

In the 1940s -1950s, corruption and bribery had become so rampant, hundreds of IRS employees were fired and/or indicted. This resulted in a major reorganization during Yankee Democrat President Harry Truman’s administration, which replaced patronage with career civil service. And as we’ve seen, this hasn’t exactly solved the corruption problem, has it?

And I’ll bet not many people are aware of this, since thou shalt not speak ill of President John Kennedy, but in the 1960s, at Kennedy’s direction, the IRS created an “Ideological Organizations Audit Project” that challeged the tax exempt status of conservative groups. Sound familiar? Targets included the American Enterprise Institute and Christian Anti-Communist Crusade. Wow, as Yogi Berra said, “It’s deja vu all over again.” This is a wild guess on my part, but I’m assuming the media didn’t report this because they were too busy not reporting on all of Kennedy’s affairs. Oh, and JFK was also a Yankee Democrat. Just thought I’d toss that little tomato into the juicer.

Then, of course, we’ve all heard about the IRS abuses committed by Republican President Richard Nixon via his infamous enemies list. What isn’t so well known, thank you media, is that then IRS Commissioner Donald Alexander resisted Nixon’s pressure to audit the people on the list, and disbanded the entity created to perform said audits.

Fast forward to present day. The IRS has become an omnipotent, inefficient, vindictive and bloated monster, with a history of brazenly violating the civil rights of citizens and organizations perceived to be in opposition to the Obama administration. I don’t think used car salesmen or even the Kardashians are held in lower esteem.

And I cannot, for the life of me, understand how anyone, even Democrats and Yankees, can support the notion that the IRS be the designated agency to enforce the mother of all oxymorons — the Affordable Care Act. A chilling article from CNBC states in part:

“The impact of the IRS on health-care reform is huge,” said Paul Hamburger, a partner and employee benefits lawyer at Proskauer. “Other agencies like Social Security will be checking for mistakes, but the IRS is the key enforcer,” Hamburger said. “It’s also going to help manage who might get health care.”

Which brings us to death panels. Gov. Sarah Palin lobbed a grenade in Obama’s sandbox with her expose on this warm and fuzzy provision of the healthcare law. The recent revelations make Gov. Palin’s predictions all the more prescient, and dare I say — she’s once again been proven right. I’m not a big Michele Bachmann fan, but last week she raised a very valid argument (among many) opposing Obamacare, and its IRS enforcement in particular:

“This is extremely troubling, because the axiom is, the power to tax is the power to destroy…Knowing that the IRS will the enforcing mechanism for [the Affordable Care Act], it’s very important to ask: Could there potentially be political implications regarding health care — access to health care, denial of health care — will that happen based upon a person’s political beliefs or their religiously-held beliefs? These questions would have been considered out of bounds a week ago, but today these questions are considered more than reasonable and more than fair for the American people.”

The House, once again, voted to repeal Obamacare and the Senate, once again, will vote no. Right now, the only hope of restoring sanity to, and confidence in, the healthcare system is for conservatives to take control of the Senate in 2014. Some damage will have already been done, but maybe the country can finally castrate the IRS and restore its original mission — collecting taxes – instead of playing judge, jury, executioner and high school mean girls.

Well, I guess I should prepare for a personal and corporate audit, huh? Oh, and IRS, just to save you some time and hassle — when I pray, I ask for a country that once again respects individual freedoms, believes in free markets and fostering entrepreneurial growth. I also ask the good Skipper to replace the CIA with CTU, just one Super Bowl win for the Tennessee Titans, and the swift return of Hostess Twinkies.

Anybody have Wesley Snipes’ number?

I wonder what scandal will be the focus today? It seems like there are so many layers to each scandal that it is almost like having ADHD. It is just crazy. I really hope the GOP can focus on every scandal because they are all important and I really, really hope they don’t blow it.

I will be extra busy these next two weeks. This week I have 2 picnics, a graduation ceremony, chaperoning a field trip and volunteer work with a group I do some work with. This coming weekend is a birthday party, golf lesson and church. Next week is Memorial Day, volunteer work at my daughter’s Field Day at her school, volunteer in the lunch room at her school and throwing a great end of the year party. Did I mention I am really busy? I also have everything in our regular lives to do and now a 5 year old who is likely going to be bored at home since his school ends this Tuesday and his sister still has 2 weeks left. Oh the attempted whining… he won’t get very far though cuz this mama ain’t got no time for that!

Excellent article by Andrew Marcus at Breitbart.com

It reminds me how much I miss Andrew Breitbart…

Here’s an excerpt:

Whenever Andrew Breitbart saw that somebody was being unfairly maligned by the institutional Left, he became that person’s stalwart defender. Sarah Palin, perhaps more than any other person in recent history, endured the full weight of what Breitbart called the “Democrat-media complex,” and so Sarah Palin had no more fierce a defender than Andrew Breitbart.

He never explicitly endorsed her for President–Breitbart, as a rule, didn’t endorse candidates. He wasn’t a policy wonk, nor did he enjoy punditry–Breitbart’s sights were consistently set on the media. He understood how the media can shape, influence, or even manipulate the general public’s perception of events and individuals. A favorite theme of the Progressive media’s smear-machine, and one which was aimed with particular savagery at Sarah Palin, is the notion that Conservatives are, in a word, dummies. One need not look very far for specific examples.

If Barack Obama claims to have visited all 57 states, we are told he was simply tired and misspoke. If Dan Quayle misspells potato, we are told that he is the stupidest man to ever set foot in Washington, D.C.

If Joe Biden asks a man in a wheelchair to stand up and be recognized, we are told that lovable and gaffe-inclined Joe Biden is just being that lovable and gaffe-inclined Joe Biden. If George W. Bush mispronounces nuclear, we are told that he is the stupidest man to ever set foot in Washington, D.C.

If Barack Obama refers to Navy Corpsmen as corpse-men, well, don’t say anything about that because shut up and you’re a racist. If Sarah Palin ends a sentence with a preposition, we are told she is the stupidest woman to ever set foot outside of Wasilla, Alaska.

In the meantime, and in the real world, Barack Obama has made Sarah Palin look like a prophet:

In 2008, President Obama said he wanted to close Gitmo. Sarah Palin said it was a bad idea. Five years later, Gitmo is still open. Point: Sarah Palin.

In 2009, the Obama administration said it wanted to put the September 11th terrorists on trial in New York. Sarah Palin said it was a bad idea. In 2011, the Obama administration concluded that holding the trial in New York was a bad idea. Point: Sarah Palin.

President Obama and Nancy Pelosi used every trick in the book to force Obamacare, also know as The Affordable Care Act, down America’s gullet. Sarah Palin said it was a bad idea. Three years later, we see doctors dropping Medicare patients by the boatload and insurance companies forecasting premium increases as high as 400%. Point: Sarah Palin.

So, who’s the dummy?

Good morning everyone!

Did anyone watch the IRS hearings yesterday? It was horrific. It was a pure display of abuse of power. It was sickening…

Gov. Palin was obviously keeping an eye on the hearing yesterday. She sent out this tweet:

“IRS Asks Iowa Pro-Life Group What They Pray About” is.gd/SqR2fT …This is just surreal.

It is amazing that so much is catching up with this administration. Benghazi, Extortion 17, the AP emails, IRS, Fast and Furious and so much more… If the GOP can’t bring this house of crazy down with this smorgasbord then they deserve everything coming their way.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I’ll be getting things ready for the final two weeks of school for my oldest. My youngest graduates preschool this coming week.

News roundup:

Yes, lots of new questions…

Mr. President, when it rains it pours, but most Americans hold their own umbrellas. Today in the Rose Garden you dismissed the idea of a Special Counsel to investigate the IRS scandal. With that, your galling political hubris shined bright in the midst of today’s dark clouds.

Mr. President, how can we trust your Justice Department to conduct an independent investigation when there is a systemic violation of the Hatch Act throughout your administration?

Surely you are aware that the Hatch Act prevents certain federal employees from engaging in political activity. Specifically, it’s illegal for these federal employees to engage in action in support of or in opposition to a political party, a candidate for partisan political office, or a partisan political group.

Yet that is exactly what’s happened within the IRS, the Justice Department, and in the Benghazi cover-up. This scandalous hat trick is on your watch. It is not believable that you knew nothing about Obama administration actions in dealing with these scandals. And in regards to Benghazi, when you should have taken appropriate action to save American lives – for instance by calling in the Marines – you were AWOL. Just weeks before the election your team scrubbed the Benghazi talking points in 12 different versions, lied to the American people about some YouTube video being to blame for the deaths of brave Americans who put our country first, and you prove Michael Barone right when he writes, “What actually happened in Benghazi was out of sync with the Obama campaign line.” That’s why you all did what you did. Pure raw politics were at play during a horrific time of loss.

For more evidence of Hatch Act violations right under your nose, simply consider DOJ’s “massive and unprecedented intrusion” into the free press. Do you think they picked up some political talk when tapping the phones in the House press gallery?

Your team is out of control. Those who cannot remember the past and learn from it are doomed to repeat it, and that is exactly what is happening. Look back exactly 40 years ago this week and apply that disheartening chapter of American history to the team you’ve chosen and lead today.

Some of us warned America; we cautioned voters in 2008 that a community organizer with no executive experience and no sense of accountability would be a very poor choice for the nation’s top management position.

Mr. President, you said today that you have “complete confidence” in the Attorney General. America doesn’t. Eric Holder needs to appoint an unbiased Special Counsel to investigate the illegal political action of this administration. And then Eric Holder needs to resign.

Most Americans see ominous dark clouds looming beyond the White House Rose Garden, Mr. President. They’ll roll away only when light is shined on the Obama administration’s antics, and America will only recover when you cease avoiding responsibility in this mission of yours to fundamentally transform America. For that to happen, the press had better learn from their experiences of being duped and provide a deserving public fairer, more intelligent coverage.

Speaking of coverage, glad you finally called in the Marines… shame it was just to hold your umbrella.

A hybrid of small leadership and big government

During the 2008 presidential campaign, then candidate Barack Obama was asked to compare his experience to that of Vice Presidential candidate Governor Sarah Palin. Obama made a disingenuous comparison by only referencing Palin’s mayoral experience, but he also tried to bolster his executive credentials by referencing his ability to manage ”large systems” and millions of dollars in campaign funds:

It is now nearly five years later, and little has changed. The President’s executive experience still lies in running a campaign, but not one that comes at the expense of his donors (and actually often to his donors’ benefit) . He has turned his executive branch cabinet level departments into components of this perpetual campaign at the expense of American taxpayers.

President Obama ‘s Treasury Department has turned into a campaign opposition research department by targeting Tea Parties, religious groups, and pro-life groups and combing through every detail of these groups and their memberships. When this department got their hands caught in the cookie jar, the President scapegoated the already lame duck IRS commissioner who wasn’t even in the role of commissioner when these targeted audits were being performed. His Department of Justice has also contributed to this effort by bugging the cloak room in the House of Representatives and seizing phone records of AP reporters who cover the GOP majority House. His elected colleagues, his constituents, and even his pals in the media became his political opponents.

During his campaign, the President would often offer a special opportunity for a donor to meet him. As President, he has done the same kind of thing, but on a much larger scale and at the expense of the American taxpayer and the American energy consumer. Instead of offering an expenses paid meeting, he is offering millions in taxpayer dollars and special favors. 80% of his Department of Energy stimulus loans went to companies tied to his donors. Meanwhile, the President has stalled on the development of Keystone Pipeline. Several of his donors stand to benefit financially from the Canadian Sands Oil regardless of whether or not the pipeline is built, and just last week, scores of the President’s donors are sent a letter petitioning him to not build the pipeline. Moreover, the President is not only trying to turn return the favor to his actual political donors, his Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is essentially acting as a fundraiser to promote the President’s healthcare policy agenda. The President is repaying his donors with political favors and asking political favors to implement his policies.

Throughout the President’s perpetual campaign, he has tried to redistribute the blame of the burgeoning scandals. Rather than being a leader and taking responsibility, he has allowed his politically driven administration to trickle down the blame. Four rogue IRS employees are being blamed for the targeted Tea Party audits, yet IRS employees are claiming they were only following orders. In trying to make sense of the attacks on the Libyan consulate last September, the Obama administration–the White House, the State Department, and the CIA– has woven a complicated web of blame and responsibility in the midst of a presidential campaign.

When it comes to the President’s campaign claim of being able to manage “large systems”, it seems Obama has been disproved by his own former campaign adviser David Axelrod. In trying to defend the President’s ability to deal with multiple, simultaneous scandals, Axelrod inadvertently made the case for smaller government when he said that there is only so much a President can know “because the government is so vast”. The President has proven that when executive experience is manifested in a hybrid of small leadership and big government, it only perpetuates a campaign cycle that trickles down the blame.

Where to start, where to start. So many scandals!

Okay, first things first. Very cynically (and I know y’all didn’t blame me) last week, I mentioned that the House would be voting to repeal Obamacare. Again. Well, apparently the vote wasn’t last week it’s this week. As in, today. Now, since the IRS prosecution/intimidation of Tea Party groups story broke last week, I believe this vote is much more important. Just think, the same IRS that targeted groups applying for 501c3 status that had Tea Party in their name or *gasp* groups that taught about the Constitution will be tasked with enforcing the Obamacare mandate. Starting with next year’s tax forms you will be required to list your personal health ID number. The form linked in the preceding sentence is just Americans for Tax Reform’s best guess at what the form will look like since, you know, we don’t actually have a copy of the form yet.

The first Sarah Palin endorsed candidate for this election cycle in Rep. Jason Smith from Missouri. You do not have to live in Missouri to help, fyi.

“The Tea Party queen here is, of course, Sarah Palin.”

Eric Holder testified yesterday. Sort of.

Great, the resignation of a guy who wasn’t even in charge when all this went down. Also, he was apparently only a temporary appointment set to leave in early June anyway. So Obama just basically gave him a 2 week vacay. Not good enough. How about some arrests?

More scandal. IRS being sued for stealing medical records of 10 million Americans.

Thomas Schmitz of AGU (American Grizzlies United) spoke with Dr. Gina Loudon yesterday.

More great Obamacare news. Who in the world is going to be able to afford this ?

From your lips to God’s ears…Why the IRS scandal could bring down Obamacare

Obamagate : a trifecta of scandal.

Your Next Political Audit . Tweeted by Sen. Ted Cruz but unclear on the author.

Hillary blamed the YouTube video on 9/11 but the earliest date on the just released (last night) 100+ pages of Benghazi emails is 9/14. Why isn’t the lame stream media asking for the public’s help in crowdsourcing these emails like they did with Sarah Palin’s?

Speaking of Hillary, fired from Watergate investigation for ‘lying, unethical behavior ‘

So there are “11 million people” knowingly, deceitfully “living in the shadows” & the Tsarnaev bomber brothers were on welfare but this German homeschooling family can’t be granted asylum? Good grief.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. We’ve got to re-take/re-make the word ‘feminism‘ from it’s current usage/understanding.

One of my faves, Jedediah Bila, has a new website.

Even though all this news can be infuriating and depressing, we’ve got to keep fighting. Hopefully this video will recharge your spirits. Have an awesome Thursday y’all!

Herding cats in a room full of rocking chairs...

As leaders like Governor Palin and Senator Cruz have emphasized, the same IRS that wrongly targeted conservative groups will play a big role in the implementation and maintenance of Obamacare. Right now there are about 700 IRS staff devoted to Obamacare implementation with as many as 16,000 IRS employees anticipated to ensure all of Obamacare’s mandates are carried out. There are numerous ways the IRS will be involved in individuals’ lives and healthcare, but the IRS involvement extends far beyond that. With the recent news of the IRS targeting non-profits, let’s take a look at one particular part of Obamacare–the mandate for non-profit hospitals to complete a community health needs assessment to maintain their non-profit status. Most hospitals are non-profit, as they provide a certain percentage of their care pro-bono.

This particular Obamacare mandate is found in Section 9007 of the law and requires hospitals to perform a community health needs assessment (CHNA) every three years and make this information publicly available. This CHNA requires five components that includes a lot of descriptive quantitative data to describe the community the hospital serves, identify the community’s biggest health and health care needs, and delineate all available healthcare services. The assessment also requires that input be obtained from the community via focus groups or similar manners. In Illinois at least, and perhaps this is a federal requirement, county health departments are required to do a similar kind of assessment periodically, so this requirement seems rather redundant.Larger hospitals will have more resources available to pay health care consulting companies to do this assessment. However, this proves to be a rather onerous task for smaller hospitals (i.e. rural hospitals) who are already underfunded and understaffed and may be reliant on other resources to assist them in completing this task. In fact, the quantitative data component of the CHNA has been one of my projects at work for the past several months. One of my co-workers and I are assisting a rural hospital with their CHNA. Below is a picture I took at one point during our data collection process:

A few weeks ago, we had to meet with the community benefits person at the hospital to discuss the CHNA. The community benefits person at the hospital said the work we were required to do was akin to “herding cats in a room full of rocking chairs”. It’s difficult and burdensome…and may leave you with a case of cat scratch fever. So any time that you hear about another Obamacare regulation or mandate, think of this:

I have shared how my area of Texas is greatly influenced by the Cajun culture. We have incorporated not just people who are from Cajun country, but also the food, music and language. Sunday at my in laws’ house, we were watching the horrid overtime fiasco that was the San Antonio Spurs scoring only 3 points during the entire overtime period for their loss to Golden State. In frustration, we turned the TV to any channel, which happened to be the History Channel.

I have never watched Swamp People but that is what was on and we watched a few minutes before clicking it off. As I watched and listened, I was following along nicely when I noticed there were subtitles on screen. For most of the country subtitles would be needed to understand what the heck was being said when they really get on a roll talking. I could understand them just fine! It was one of those moments of realizing what I hick I really am & that I speak Cajun.

Have a great day.

The Left hand doesn't know what the Left hand is doing.

Last week, President Obama gave the commencement address at Ohio State University where he mocked those who warned against the potential tyranny of overreaching government “around every corner” and accused such critics of “gumming up the works”:

In recent days, leaks from a soon-to-be released inspector general’s report have shown that the IRS targeted Tea Party groups starting in March of 2010 and that the IRS’s chief counsel knew as early as 2011 that such groups were being targeted. The targeting of Tea Party groups included in depth questioning from IRS officials ranging from inquiries regarding interactions with the media to predicting event revenue, expense, and other details of future rallies. Despite earlier claims from the Obama administration aiming to pin responsibility on low level field agents, it has become clear that IRS offices in Washington and at least two other offices were involved in the targeting of conservative groups. Additionally, IRS officials based in Cincinnati (just 100 miles from where President Obama gave his speech mocking government skeptics) disclosed confidential documents from Tea Party groups to Pro Publica, a left-leaning media group whose main funders also fund the Soros-backed Center for American Progress.

The news of the last two weeks alone has proven that those who support limited government have reason to question the size and scope of government and how such a large, over-reaching government can truly be held accountable. The Obama administration has been able to feign ignorance over the dealings of several of his own cabinet departments. He has claimed no previous knowledge of IRS targeting of conservative groups, calling the IRS an “independent agency”. The Obama administration has claimed only a stylistic role in the editing of Benghazi talking points by his own State Department and CIA. This evening, press secretary Jay Carney claimed that the Obama administration was unaware of that the Department of Justice obtained phone logs of AP reporters, again calling an executive branch entity like the Department of Justice, “independent”. All of these examples are proof that government has become too big and leadership has become too small to take responsibility for its own failures.

Late Leftist historian Howard Zinn quipped during the Bush administration that dissent was the highest form of patriotism. Now, dissent in the name of patriotism means that groups undergo harsh scrutiny from the government they wish to help restore to its proper purpose and size. Pardon us, for “gumming up the works”, Mr. President. We simply want our government to abide by the charter of liberties you swore an oath to uphold. We won’t be silenced.

Good morning everyone!

I hope all the mommies had a great Mother’s Day yesterday. My two kiddos (and their great dad) treated me to breakfast at one of my favorite spots. It is a place called Snooze. They use quality, fresh ingredients and the food is amazing. When we left, the wait was 3 hours and 40 minutes and people were waiting…

After that, we headed down to my favorite zoo because all mommies love to spend the day with their happy kids . I love this zoo and I wanted to see how the baby giraffe has grown thru the winter. He has really grown and we saw a new baby that was born in January. He was tiny (for a giraffe). They have the giraffe habitat where you can feed the giraffes, pet them and see them at eye level. It is very cool. The coolest thing about the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is that it is literally on the side of a mountain. I highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Colorado. It is about 50 minutes south of Denver in Colorado Springs.

In other news:

And yes, it does send chills… nice to others feel the same…

“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world”—a phrase so simple, yet so profound in its expression of a mother’s importance. Mothers have been entrusted with the responsibility of raising life’s most precious resource—our children.

I appreciate my mom and the example of love and grace she has been throughout the years. Thank you, Mom!

Todd and I also appreciate the honor of being the parents of five wonderful kids and two amazing little grandkids who have enriched our life together in more ways than I could have ever imagined. Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig are my life, and being joined now by Tripp Easton and Kyla Grace, I know that no matter what is going on in the world around me, they are the ones who keep me grounded. They are my daily reminders of what really matters.

Even as we celebrate Mother’s Day with family today, please stop to think of the many mothers who are separated from loved ones serving in the military and keeping us safe. I’ve been there, and especially today my heart goes out to those Blue Star moms who are missing their sons and daughters, while being so very proud. More than ever my heart extends to the precious Gold Star moms who are spending today holding on to memories of a child who paid the ultimate price. Whether it’s been far away in specified combat zones, or attacks globally throughout the ongoing battle to defend our republic, or nearer home as the result of terrorist acts like Ft. Hood, the sacrifice of our military personnel and their families has not been in vain, and we will never forget.

Moms, whatever your plans today, know that you are appreciated year-round. One day is not enough to capture the essence of who you are, what you do, and the difference you make.

Driving in our truck this morning up towards Mt. McKinley, hauling kids and trailering snowmachines to launch on a trek to look for bear before the spring snow melts, I wish you a Happy Mother’s Day, and God bless you!

- Sarah Palin

Exclusive interview with Sally Heath, Gov. Palin’s mom on this Mother’s Day!

Here is an excerpt:

But while all of these Palins and Heaths may be better known, all of them are likely to point to someone else as the backbone of the family–Sally Heath.

Sally Heath is the real article. She is “as advertised” by her loved ones. And she is always thinking of others even in an interview about herself. She is Sarah Palin’s mother.

Sally Heath rarely gives interviews. Unlike her daughter, Sarah, you’ll never catch her tweeting or posting a major political message on Facebook. Mrs. Heath enjoys playing her role away from the limelight. Her role however, while perhaps unnoticed by the media machine, has been critical in shaping her family.

While Sally Heath may be soft spoken, she isn’t shy when it comes to the pride and love she feels for her family. That’s understandable. Mrs. Heath raised four successful, thoughtful, caring children who all went on to raise great families of their own. According to Mrs. Heath, one of the keys to raising children is knowing when to help and when to let the kids take their own paths.

“You do what you can for the kids, but they choose their own way and you pray they’ll stick to the morals and teachings they’ve received over the years,” Heath told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview. “For the most part I would say we have been blessed that way, but I have to give credit to so many family members and friends too because Chuck and I, and the kids and their friends too, we’ve just all lucked out with the most wonderful things in whatever communities we live in. We’ve had good influences on the kids.”

Mrs. Heath may be a bit modest. Ask her children or her husband and more credit is usually heaped upon her.You can read the whole article here. It is excellent!

Let the Light Shine

Today we learned that our government targeted and harassed conservative Americans who simply wanted to be involved in the national discussion. Is it any wonder why Americans are so distrustful of D.C.? I’m sure President Obama is grateful for all the help the IRS gave his reelection campaign, but, still, you have to wonder how the bureaucrats who tried to pull this off can sleep at night.

So many Americans knew this was happening, but many felt defenseless and even helpless against a government that seems to roll along without accountability or sense of obligation to the people it’s supposed to serve. These Americans were mocked for being concerned about this, but now we see light shining on the truth, finally.

This IRS revelation is another step in the unraveling of the Obama administration’s self-proclaimed “hope and change.” Between the Benghazi cover-up and the IRS targeting Obama’s political opponents, we see the corruption at the heart of big government.

Americans should remember that this same corrupt IRS will be in charge of enforcing Obamacare. And this same inept and corrupt government will supposedly secure our now unsecured borders in advance of immigration reform and will implement a completely ethical and non-political IPAB panel to make life and death health care decisions for you and your family. Forgive me for not trusting these big government promises any more than I trust the White House’s latest Benghazi spin or the IRS’ fairness.

Despite all of this, I still believe that this “fundamental transformation of America” is temporary. This attempted transformation into a disheartened, weakened, unrecognizable nation is so far below anything Americans deserve. It becomes permanent only if we throw up our hands and surrender to the corruption and cover-ups.

We must demand more light shine on all that’s transpiring in D.C.’s self-absorbed bubble. On the IRS scandal, we must have accountability and a full investigation. On Benghazi, Speaker Boehner must create a Select Committee with full investigative and subpoena authority to get to the bottom of the cover-up. Keep the faith, friends.

I'm ROTFLOLing having Obama show up in my state to talk about job creation and the middle class.

Good Morning

You all owe me a big thank you. I did not put that horrid picture of Obama in a cowboy hat on the homepage or in this post. Just doing my part to keep your keyboards clean.

I am weary of that man being in my beloved state all the time lately. He seems to have a little Texas fever and can’t stay away……Git, time for you to leave and not come back.

I suppose when you have managed to wreck the economy worse than Jimmy Carter you have to come to a red state to blab about your Middle Class Jobs and Opportunity Tour. How lame. We all know why Obama is here and not in a blue state. Blue states have high unemployment, state and city governments close to bankruptcy due to following policies Obama wants the entire nation to enjoy.

Wonder why he didn’t address the Key Stone Pipeline while here? Lots of jobs tied to that and it is popular, to say the least in, my area of the state, we are right by the planned terminus…..nah, he’s not gonna touch that while on the ground here.

No thanks cowboy. Saddle up and leave. I will admit that going anywhere near Austin is just the place for him. Austin is really not part of Texas. It is an island of weird liberal attitudes in the center of our state. I am sure the smell wafting down from Austin reeking of liberal ideas and policies will improve greatly once Air Force One is back up and heading north. I can’t wait!

Have a great day!

We can not let this Administration lie and cover up the truth or hide it's real motivation while more and more of our soldiers are wounded or die senseless and needless deaths.

On the night of August 6, 2011, our military piled 30 of our best and brightest highly trained Special Operation forces into an old Chinook helicopter built in the early 1960′s that had last been retro-fitted in 1985 and was documented to be in very poor condition. Why?

Why would our government put 17 Navy Seals, 5 Navy Special Ops Support Personnel, 5 Army, 3 Air Force, 1 Military work dog and 7 Afghan soldiers and 1 Afghan civilian Interpreter all onto the same helicopter and why would they give them such an old National Guard helicopter when our Special Forces usually fly the latest and greatest technologically advanced machine such as the MH 47 Nightstalker? There were 38 deaths total in that single crash. We sent our men into harms way in the wrong chopper, without cover and without properly vetted Afghan companions. They had no escort, no cover, the drone that was supposed to provide an “eye” was not working and it was an active battle situation.

The crash happened in Tanji, where the U.S. closed a combat outpost in April 2011. However, the AP reported that the Afghan forces never staffed the outpost after American forces left and the Taliban moved back in. The nature of the mission for Extortion 17 is really not known but result would become marked in history as the largest loss in the history of Naval special warfare and the largest one day loss in our 11 year war in Afghanistan.

There are a lot of questions that have not been answered and frankly, our government has attempted to coverup and bury as much of this incident as possible. Today at a press conference, the family members of some of the military that were killed are demanding answers and they deserve them. Not only has our government denied them the right to the truth but they have violated these people’s right to religious freedom and insulted these fallen heroes in death by allowing a Muslim cleric to come disparage and damn these honored warriors to hell by declaring them infidels to Allah. Why not provide the families copies of the ramp ceremony? Why keep that a secret and also not provide the identity of the Imam? This ramp ceremony takes place in Bagram, Afghanistan so is this a regular event for this Imam? Obama and our military owe these families an apology and the truth.

Everyone needs to take the time to watch this press conference:

So is our military the greatest, fittest, toughest, best trained military in the world whose mission is to protect and defend our country and win whatever battle we sent them in or are is our military a bunch of community organizers sent out to win the hearts and minds of the enemy and sing a round of kumbayah? Our Navy Seals do NOT train to be community organizers.

Why and who made the decision at the last minute to switch out the eight properly vetted Afghan soldiers and interpreter for eight unknown Afghans to join our Special forces on this critical combat mission? Who was this person and why did they make this decision? Who were these eight Afghans that were now on this chopper and how did SOCom not know about the swap?

Why and who invited a Muslim Imam to speak and pray over our fallen Christain soldiers at their funeral when these families were told that they could not express their own Judeo-Christian values at the service? How dare our government, military and President allow such a thing.

An internal investigation was conducted by CENTCOM and it concluded “that all operational decisions, linked to the incident, were deemed tactically sound” and that the Chinook crashed after an RPG round impacted the aft rotor assembly. Tell us something we don’t know…

Karen Vaughn, mother of one of our fallen heroes that night, expressed frustration at the unanswered questions and missing information in the over 1200 page report from CENTCOM. She questioned why the helicopter entered unescorted into a valley that was on heightened alert that night and had been in battle for more than 3 hours. She expressed disgust at the rules of engagement that prevented pre-assault fire as she was told that it damaged our efforts to win the hearts and minds of our enemy. “So in other words, the hearts and minds of our enemy are more valuable to this government than my son’s blood” said Karen.

One of the most disturbing pieces of information Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn revealed was that the Afghan National Army, the Afghan National Police and the Afghan Security Ministry are, have been and still will be involved in planning of every single stage of every single mission of our special operations that happen in that country even knowing that these agencies have been infiltrated. Heck, the enemy brags about it but yet, our strategy doesn’t change. Just who is in charge here? Clearly, Karen Vaughn raises four very important questions about that night.

During this press conference some of the current Rules of Engagement were revealed. It is no wonder that over 14,000 soldiers have come home as wounded warriors and changed forever in just the past 3 years under President Obama. It is a dereliction of duty by our Commander in Chief. The new rules of engagement set our soldiers up for failure and to die. Is that the goal? Are these new rules designed to weaken our nation and our military by killing our best and most special forces off? Was this crash in Tanji an offering of appeasement for the capture of Bin Laden?

Pres. Obama has shown time and time again little concern for our fallen soldiers. The form letters he sends out to the families was mentioned today. It is shameful and embarrassing to the office of the President and Commander in Chief that a personal phone is made to someone like Sandra Fluke or Jason Collins but for someone who gave their life blood for our freedom, their family gets a form letter with an autopen signature.

Doug Hamburger lost his son Patrick in the crash. Doug expressed that he feels his son and team members were ambushed. He raised concerns with Vice President Biden’s leak of classified information revealing the name of Seal Team 6 and that this leak put his son in harms way by putting a bounty on his head. Mr. Hamburger wonders why no one from the Afghan military was ever questioned during the 1250 page investigation.

Michael Strange was a Navy Seal who died in the crash. His dad Charles Strange represented him well. He described Biden as having a “half a load on” when he leaked the information about Seal Team 6. Mr. Strange described his encounter with President Obama and General Colt. He pressed the Administration for where the black box was. They told him it was blown away by the flood. Mr. Strange didn’t buy that excuse and pressed further. After all, they’ve found black boxes at the bottom of swamps. They told him it was all in “the book”. Strangely, there was no ink in the book they provided him. Again, he pressed for the truth. They told him they burned the original book (why?) so they gave him a disk but most of the disk was full of white outs. Mr. Strange talks about how Admiral Horowitz tells him they didn’t use a drone which could have done the same job because they wanted to win the hearts and minds. Who gave the OK? Mr. Strange asks. “It goes all the way to the top” he says “It’s in the paperwork”. He asks everyone to follow the money and who is the leak?

The most devastating information was when Mr. Strange said that he had been provided pictures of his son from autopsy and yet the government then turned around and claimed that all the soldiers were burned beyond recognition and had to be cremated. Mr. Strange knew that was a lie and was visibly angry as his son did not need to be cremated. He had pictures to prove that his son could have had a proper burial and yet the government cremated his son. Why would the military lie to him?

We changed the rules of engagement to benefit them and yet the Taliban and Al Queda have RPG’s, night vision goggles, heat seeking missiles, and more.

It took our military 10 minutes to identify which helicopter went down. There were no pathfinders, no eye in the sky drone, no escorts, nothing. Our military men were fighting for their lives with no backup, no help, no rescue.

Today’s press conference left no doubt that there is a coverup going on of Extortion 17. Also speaking at the press conference was Admiral James Lyons, Army Major General Paul Vallely, General Tom MacInerney, Lt. Colonel Allen West, former Seals, Benjamin Smith and Larry Bailey, and General Boykin. Each of them expressed concern that our military has been infiltrated at all levels by the true enemy and that they are trying to destroy us from within. Being experienced military men, they warned of the dangers of the new restricted rules of engagement.

Admiral Lyons revealed that the Muslim Brotherhood has had more growth and made more strides in the past few years than they have made ever in the history of our country. 57 Muslim nations protested our training materials and those materials were purged and our trainers were “re-educated” toward a sensitivity toward Islam (57 of them… Muslim nations… does that number ring a bell with anyone? kind of like the 57 states Obama thought the US has…hmmm…). Admiral Lyons rightly pointed out that the concept of Arab Spring makes no sense. They don’t want it and their crede is to destroy us and our democracy. Admiral Lyons stated that under the Obama administration he has seen the Muslim Brotherhood ascend to power in the Middle East.

Gen. Tom MacInerney names names. This guy is the real deal. He lays it out about the corruption, complicity and dereliction of duty of this government. He names Sec. Gates at the launching pad of politicizing the military officers and the Obama Administration for the pattern of leaving people behind. Gen. Boykin took the podium and talked about the last time we went to war without politics which was on the beaches of Normandy. Gen. Boykin expressed how deeply incensed he is regarding the fact that the military has allowed an Iman to come and pray over the bodies of our fallen soldiers condemning them to hell. He said that we have failed to know the enemy and apologized to the families.

Col. West reminded everyone that in the last election cycle we had for the first time in 77 years no one running on either ticket with any military experience. He reiterated the same questions that have been asked and stated that the answers must be demanded. Navy Seal Benjamin Smith observed that Islam is over 1400 years old and they already didn’t like us before we were a breath just on ideology alone and yet we are only 200 years old and we have supposedly never lost a war but do we stand a chance in this one? He stated that he believes that President Obama is guilty of treason by putting our people at risk like this by sending people into situations where the other side has foreknowledge of our plans.

Brigitte Gabriel closed out the press conference by thanking everyone who serves this country and fights for our freedom and the families who raise and support those soldiers.

Noted names:

People who would NOT help:

Rep. John Boehner, Sen. Levin, Sen. Harry Reid, Sen. McCain, Admiral William McRaven, The establishment of the Republican party

People who would help:

Rep. Gommert, Rep. Bachmann, Rep. Franks, Sen. Rubio (kind of, since he ran to his new best friend McCain & the Vaughn’s declined McCain’s help as they don’t trust him but they didn’t say why).

We can not let this Administration lie and cover up the truth or hide it’s real motivation while more and more of our soldiers are wounded or die senseless and needless deaths.

Please take the time to watch the press conference for yourself. Listen to the words and hear their concerns and then contact your Representatives and Senators to demand a Congressional Hearing into what really happened so that the truth will come out. We can not let this Administration politicize our military or use our best and brightest as failed community organizers. If we the people don’t make enough noise, they will simply sweep this under the rug. They are counting on us not caring enough.

It is time to demand the truth.

So much Benghazi news today. I had some other obligations to deal with during the day but managed to watch about 2 hours of the hearing. Honestly, that was about all I could stand. The Democrats sure did stick to their talking points. And boy were they painful talking points. The over-arching theme was “thank you for your service–we’re sorry this happened–unfortunately you didn’t have enough funding–let’s just not let this happen ever again.” This was not a budgetary failure. Any attempt to paint it as such is cowardly and deceptive.

Before yesterday’s hearings, Ted Cruz had 12 questions about Benghazi.

“I was stunned. My jaw dropped. I was embarrassed.”

Can you imagine thinking this, let alone *saying* it? What if this had been the GOP response to Newtown?!?

Good grief. The White House is sticking with their story.

Hmm. I didn’t know I was a rich, middle-aged man. I do like Chick-Fil-A (although it’s a rare treat for me) so at least they got one thing right.

These were two points I found quite stunning…

I didn’t hear this with my own two ears but I saw a handful of tweets about it. I wouldn’t be surprised…

Why are they only charging one brother?

More Cruz news…It’s a shame that this hasn’t been done before and that we’re at the point where (I believe) it’s necessary.

“I think Governor Christie is terrific.”

My one word response: Asinine.

I’m really tired of people making excuses for Rubio. He acted in good faith, he was fooled, he’s naive, etc… Excuse me. Rubio’s not stupid. Forget needing a grain of salt, now that the news is out that his right hand man used to work for George Soros, use an entire salt shaker to go with everything he says & does.

Ask yourself: Why is Facebook okay with this alliance? Could *you* get hired by Facebook with *your* political beliefs?

Not sure what to make of this. House GOP could’ve de-funded Obamacare after the 2010 elections and they never did. If this has no chance of passing, this is foolish. Our political opponents will only point to all the times (30!) this has been brought up for repeal and failed.

Stupidest thing you’ll read all day. Maybe.

An inconvenient (gun) truth

Don’t forget, the Governor is in Buckeye, Arizona today.
